BOYLE CALLS OUT TRUMP ENABLERS IN U.S. HOUSE

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02) today called upon the U.S. House of Representatives to refuse to seat any House member or Member-elect who formally objects to, or attacks the November 2020 election results as corrupt.
"There are now Members and Members-elect of the 117th Congress who still, in the face of all logic, common sense and earthly reality, continue to enable Donald Trump's ridiculous efforts to invalidate the 2020 presidential election," said Congressman Boyle. "If they honestly feel that their stance is valid, then they clearly must follow their position to its logical conclusion – and remove themselves from the legislative body to which they were elected – mind you, by the same process they now claim is corrupt."
Section 3 of the 14th Amendment – which disqualifies from service any individual who seeks to attack American democracy, as well as Congress's power to exclude Members by majority vote as acknowledged by the U.S. Supreme Court – directly applies to these Members' continued assault on democracy. "Such individuals, who are more concerned with demonstrating loyalty to the president than to their constituents and the nation that they serve, should not be seated as Members of Congress," Congressman Boyle said. "Indeed, their words and actions run entirely counter to the oath they would take."
Congressman Boyle quoted a recent interview given by one such Member intent on destabilizing the nation and its democratic infrastructure, Jeff Van Drew. "In an interview this week with the Atlantic City Press, Rep. Van Drew, no stranger to taking advantage of prevailing political winds regardless of his previously stated course, unwittingly laid out the case against him and his fellow conspirators when he said the following: ‘To be complicit with what has happened – to not exercise my right and responsibility given to me under the Constitution to object to what has happened in the election – is at best lazy and at very worst harmful and destructive to the republic.' I couldn't agree more. To combat these at-best lazy and at-worst harmful and destructive attacks on the republic by House Republicans, it is incumbent upon me to demand these individuals put their money where their sound bites are and stand down from taking their place among Members of Congress who cherish this country, its laws, its democracy and its millions and millions of voting citizens."
