Boyle Calls for Removal of President Trump

January 11, 2021

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02) today issued the following statement regarding impeachment and/or invoking the 25th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution to remove President Donald J. Trump from office:

"This week, I am co-sponsoring articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump in order to remove him from office. Last week's heinous attack on the Capitol by a mob of domestic terrorists was lead and spurred on by the president himself. It is abundantly clear that he is a danger to the American people and our democracy."

"I continue to call upon Vice President Pence and the Trump administration to invoke the 25th Amendment immediately, so that this president can no longer threaten our democracy, its institutions and the American people. In order to prevent further destruction to the United States of America, we must exercise every constitutional option we have at our disposal."

"The damage done to our democracy by the President and his enablers is deep and will take a long time to repair. This failed coup attempt inspired by the President has served to embolden our enemies both domestic and abroad. Let us not lose sight of the fact that this president invited an armed assault against the United States of America. These are not the actions of someone who took an oath to safeguard and protect our country. These are the actions of someone actively looking to rip it apart at the seams. Therefore, abiding by the clear language of the Constitution, I feel that this president is wholly unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office and must be removed via impeachment, or by the 25th Amendment."
