Boyle Secures Two Amendments in NDAA to Strengthen Global Democracy

July 21, 2020

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02) secured two amendments in the William M. (Mac) Thornberry National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to promote democracy and democratic institutions. Both amendments were voted on the House floor today.

"It is now more important than ever for Congress to reinforce its commitment to NATO and democracy abroad in countries like Ukraine," said Congressman Boyle. "We cannot fail to stand up for democracy even as we face backlash against globalization. The United States must stand with its allies and strengthen democratic institutions as other leaders like those in the Kremlin seek to dismantle the Western alliance. We must remain firm in supporting the greater global community so that we can maintain the peace and security we've all enjoyed over the past 75 years."

Congressman Boyle's first amendment reaffirms support for an enduring strategic partnership between the United States and Ukraine and support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The second amendment reaffirms the commitment of the United States to NATO.
