BOYLE & SMITH STATEMENT ON KATHERINE'S LUNG CANCER EARLY DETECTION AND SURVIVAL ACT LEGISLATION

September 15, 2022

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02) and Senator Tina Smith (MN) released the following joint statement comemorating the 2nd Anniversary of the passing of Katherine Bensen, daughter of former Congressman Rick Nolan of Minnesota. Rep. Boyle and Sen. Smith recently introduced bicameral legislation, "Katherine's Lung Cancer Early Detection and Survival Act", in her memory:

"Today we commemorate Katherine Bensen, daughter of former U.S. Rep. Rick Nolan, on the second anniversary of her untimely death from lung cancer. Katherine fought stage 4, non-smoking, non-small cell lung cancer, all the while also fighting for policy change so that other people could get early access to lung cancer screening without financial or other barriers. Because of her courageous advocacy, we have introduced Katherine's Lung Cancer Early Detection and Survival Act, a bill that would drastically expand access to lung cancer screening, helping to catch and treat this cancer that is too often diagnosed at late stages. With lung cancer being the number one cancer killer of men and women in the U.S., today we renew calls for Congress to advance this life-saving legislation."
