Boyle Statement on Hahnemann Rally

July 15, 2019
Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02) today released the statement below, following Sen. Bernie Sanders (VT) Philadelphia rally to save Hahnemann Hospital from closure:
“I welcome the help from Senator Sanders, and any of the other Presidential candidates, in our community’s fight to save Hahnemann Hospital from closing its doors in Philadelphia”, said Congressman Boyle. “Nearly two-thirds of Hahnemann’s patients are covered by some type of government health insurance, such as Medicaid or Medicare. A Hahnemann closure would place unanticipated stresses on other Philadelphia hospitals that could lead to a substantial reduction in quality of care for patients in Philadelphia.”
“While I will continue working with other elected officials from the Philadelphia delegation, I would again urge Hahnemann CEO Joel Freedman to reconsider his decision to shutter Hahnemann Hospital and work with all parties to find some path to keep Hahnemann open.”
