Boyle Statement on House Vote to Extend Affordable Care Act Tax Credits for Three Years

January 8, 2026

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02), Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement after the House passed legislation to extend enhanced Affordable Care Act (ACA) premium tax credits for three years. Republican leadership was forced to bring the bill to the floor following a discharge petition that Congressman Boyle helped champion:

“Let’s be clear: this bill would never have passed—or even received a vote—without House Democrats forcing action to protect health care for millions of Americans. Without these tax credits, hundreds of thousands of families in Pennsylvania alone are facing average premium increases of 102 percent.

While today’s vote is an important step toward limiting the damage caused by Republicans’ historic $1 trillion cut to health care, our work is not finished.

I urge the Senate, including Pennsylvania’s two Senators, to move swiftly and send this bill to the President’s desk so working families can finally get the relief they deserve.”

Earlier today, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimated that a three-year extension of the enhanced ACA premium tax credits would increase the number of Americans with health insurance by millions — including roughly 3 million in 2027 and 4 million in 2028.

CBO has already estimated that Republicans’ reconciliation bill — combined with their failure to extend these tax credits — increases the number of uninsured Americans by 15 million.
