Boyle Statement on Passage of the HEROES Act

May 15, 2020

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02) released the following statement upon the House of Representatives' passage of the HEROES Act. This legislation will directly address the continued public health crisis and provide desperately needed support for struggling families, essential workers and municipalities.

"Congress must lead and cannot hesitate to act when so many families in our communities are struggling," said Congressman Boyle. "This legislation is not perfect, but, it will provide immediate relief through additional direct payments. State and local governments will get a life preserver here too, including an estimated $4,101,716,185 to Philadelphia in urgently needed funds to cover coronavirus-related outlays and revenue loss. We in Congress have a responsibility to do what is necessary now to protect the health and well-being of all, especially those who are on the front lines of this crisis."

The legislation follows the Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act enacted on April 24; the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, enacted on March 27; the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, enacted on March 18; and the Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act enacted on March 6.
