BOYLE STATEMENT ON PRESIDENT’S PLAN TO REDUCE GUN VIOLENCE

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02) issued the following statement today in response President Biden's comprehensive strategy to combat gun violence and other violent crime. The President's strategy implements preventative measures that are proven to reduce violent crime, and attacks the root causes of gun violence.

"President Biden today took bold action in addressing the surge in gun violence that has affected cities across the country over the last year and a half. Philadelphia is one of those cities that has suffered greatly from the tragic outcomes of gun violence. To date, there have been more than 260 homicides in Philadelphia in 2021, a 37% increase from 2020."
"I applaud the President for using American Rescue Plan funding to support proven community based violence intervention programs, like Mothers In Charge, who work passionately to reduce gun violence, and make our neighborhoods safer. Providing direct funding to these local groups allows them to continue their mission where it is needed most."
