Boyle Statement on President’s State of the Union Address

Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – Tonight, Congressman Brendan F. Boyle released the following statement in response to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union Address to Congress.
“Tonight, President Trump continues to mislead the American people and take credit for an economy he inherited,” said Congressman Boyle. “Reports indicate that the economy last year grew at its slowest pace of President Trump’s term so far, expanding by a mere 2.3 percent, which is well below the benchmark the president pledged to deliver. Since day one of his presidency, too many middle-class families have faced deep economic uncertainty because of his tax cuts for the rich and the start of a trade war. In addition, he promised us better health care but continues to take away lifesaving care for those with pre-existing conditions and undermine Social Security benefits for our most vulnerable citizens. Americans deserve a President who is working for everyday Americans, not the interest of the wealthiest few. I remain deeply concerned about President Trump’s disdain for our democracy and his push for dangerous policies that will shrink the American middle class.”
