Boyle Statement on Proposed Annexation
WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02) makes the following statement:
“The United States has long supported direct negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians in order to achieve a two-state solution, two states for two peoples, with mutual recognition and security guarantees. Last year, the House of Representatives passed a resolution supporting a negotiated two-state solution stating, ‘only the outcome of a two-state solution that enhances stability and security for Israel, Palestinians, and their neighbors can both ensure the state of Israel’s survival as a Jewish and democratic state and fulfill the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people for a state of their own.’ I voted in favor of this resolution and this is still my firmly held view.
Therefore, I am deeply concerned, and oppose, reported plans to unilaterally annex the West Bank. As I personally wrote to Prime Minister Netanyahu last week, I fear this will prove destructive to the prospects for a two-state solution. I urge both sides to recommit themselves to the peace process.”
