BOYLE STATEMENT ON SETTLEMENT BETWEEN US TRADE REP AND TRIDONEX

August 11, 2021

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02) released the following statement below after the announcement of a settlement between the U.S. Trade Representative and Tridonex, a subsidiary of Cardone Industries, to address allegations of workers being denied collective bargaining in efforts to form a union at the Tridonex facility in Matamoros, Mexico:

"This settlement is a clear example of the USMCA's effectiveness in ensuring that worker rights are protected", said Congressman Boyle. "I applaud Ambassador Katherine Tai for leveraging the robust enforcement mechanisms within the USMCA to protect collective bargaining rights in Mexico. Tridonex engaged in mass firings, forced resignations and intimidation against its own employees. Because of the USTR's use of this mechanism, I expect that this settlement will protect the rights of these workers who are under attack by their employer solely because they sought to organize a union."
