BOYLE STATEMENT ON SUPREME COURT FAILURE TO STOP TEXAS’ ANTI-ABORTION LAW

September 2, 2021

PHILADELPHIA – Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02) released the following statement on Texas' near ban on abortions and the Supreme Court's failure to prevent this dangerous law from going into effect:

"The Supreme Court's failure to block the extreme anti-abortion law in Texas allows the rollback of key protections that have been upheld by Roe v. Wade for nearly 50 years. Those that will disproportionately feel the full effects of this decision are individuals who already face an uphill battle of accessing care: low income individuals and individuals of color. Limiting access to abortion will have dire consequences for patients in Texas, in which women may risk their lives and health to undergo unsafe practices to get an abortion. S.B. 8 severely limits a woman's right to choose and criminalizes medical doctors and essentially anyone else who aids a woman who makes this deeply personal choice. Further, and bizarrely, it deputizes ordinary citizens to enforce the new law."
