Boyle Statement on White House Withdrawal from Syria

October 7, 2019

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Today, Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02), co-chair and co-founder of the Friends of a Free, Stable and Democratic Syria, responded to the White House statement announcing that the United States is withdrawing from positions in Syria on the Turkish border.

"President Trump's statement represents a profound lack of understanding of the reality on the ground in Northern Syria," said Congressman Boyle. "The President is making an impulsive decision that threatens our national security and abandons our allies in the region. I am deeply concerned by his decision and implore him to reconsider. ISIS is not yet defeated. This is only a gift to Putin and Iran's malign activity in the region. Instead of focusing on the real problems, President Trump turned and attacked our European allies who have been strong partners for the United States in Syria. What is he thinking?"

Congressman Boyle previously wrote to President Trump urging him to preserve the cease-fire in Northwest Syria following the Assad regime's incessant, brutal attacks on innocent civilians.
