Congressman Boyle Announces $11.9 Million Digital Equity Competitive Grant for Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA, PA — Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02) announced today that the City of Philadelphia has been awarded a $11,900,000 Digital Equity Competitive Grant. The grant will support initiatives to expand internet and device access, improve digital skill development through classes and workshops, and provide professional development and technical support to community-based organizations driving digital inclusion. These efforts are designed to ensure that all Philadelphians, regardless of their background or circumstances, have the resources they need to fully participate in the digital world.
"The ability to connect to the internet and navigate our digital world is no longer a luxury—it’s a basic necessity," said Congressman Boyle. "This funding will ensure that every Philadelphian, regardless of their zip code or circumstances, has the tools and skills to succeed in today’s economy and build a brighter future."
Created through the Digital Equity Act, part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the Digital Equity Competitive Grant Program is one of three grant programs aimed at closing the digital divide nationwide. With a total investment of $2.75 billion, this legislation is a cornerstone of efforts to ensure every American has access to the internet and the skills to use it effectively. This program will complement digital equity activities funded by the Capacity Grant Program.
The funded initiatives will roll out over the coming months, with a focus on collaboration between city agencies, educational institutions, and community organizations to maximize impact.
