Congressman Boyle Urges President Trump to Stand with Ukraine in Meeting with Putin at G20 Summit

June 27, 2019
Press Release

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02) wrote to President Trump urging him to demand the release of 24 Ukrainian sailors held in Russia and uphold U.S. support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity with Vladimir Putin. The letter comes after the White House announced President Trump plans to hold a formal meeting with Putin on the sidelines of the G20 Summit tomorrow, despite canceling.
“Even though Putin has not released the Ukrainian sailors arrested last year or altered his malign behavior, President Trump has granted Putin a formal meeting. This is contradictory given the President canceled a planned meeting with Putin in Buenos Aires last year. It is critical that the President hold Putin accountable for Russia’s illegal and dangerous actions that have been carried out in Ukraine. He must reiterate the United States’ full support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine.”
Following President Trump’s last formal meeting with Vladimir Putin in which the President took an unusual and unprecedented step to hold a one-on-one summit, Congressman Boyle introduced a resolution of inquiry requesting all materials and documents used in preparation for the summit by the Trump administration be turned over to Congress. Congressman Boyle is a strong advocate that the American public must know what the President commits to in his conversations with Vladimir Putin.
