House Passes Boyle Amendment to Counteract Trump Administration Climate Change Denial
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed H.R.2407, a House Appropriations package including the Fiscal Year 2020 Energy and Water Appropriations Act. This package includes an amendment offered by Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02) which prohibits the Trump administration from rejecting any grant application for using the term “global warming” or the term “climate change” in the application.
“At a time when climate change and global warming pose an unparalleled threat to our national security and the safety of the planet, we must fight back against the Trump Administration’s codification of climate change denial. This amendment is an important step because we should encourage more projects that focus on how we can best mitigate the effects of this exponentially growing danger. Rather than forbid the use of these words and run from our problems, we should work with our science community to progress towards sustainable solutions that acknowledge the realities of climate change and tackle the 21st century challenges we face.”
H.R. 2407 now awaits consideration in the Senate.
