Philadelphia Congressmen Herald $12.5 Million Grant to Renovate, Reopen Franklin Square Station

November 12, 2019

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressmen Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02) and Dwight Evans (PA-03) today applauded the awarding of a $12.5 million federal grant to the Franklin Square Station Reopening Project. The Franklin Square Station was shuttered in 1979 and has been off limits to the public ever since. The grant will revitalize and reopen the long dormant rail station and bring it into compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements.

"This is great news for the beleaguered Franklin Square Station," said Congressman Boyle. "It is also great news for the thousands of commuters who use the PATCO line daily to travel to Philadelphia for work and play. This grant will provide substantial funding for the estimated $30 million Franklin Square Station Reopening Project price tag and will create good paying union jobs."

"This federal funding approved by Congress will create jobs and improve transportation for Philadelphia and the region," said Congressman Evans. It could also lead to fewer cars on the roads, which would be a victory in reducing air pollution. This project is also an example of how we could create many more jobs and make vital repairs to our schools, housing, transit, roads, bridges, water and sewer systems with passage of a broad infrastructure plan."
