PSLF Caucus Co-Chairs Call for COVID-19 Relief in PSLF Program
PHILADELPHIA, PA – Today, Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02) and Congressman David P. Joyce (OH-14), co-chairs of the Congressional Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Caucus, sent a letter to House Leadership to include provisions that strengthen the PSLF program in the final version of the next coronavirus-related stimulus package.
“Time after time, public servants have consistently stepped up to help their communities without hesitation,” said Congressman Boyle. “Now is our turn to help them by ensuring that their ability to pay off their loans is not affected by this ongoing pandemic. My letter proposes commonsense changes to the PSLF program to account for the new realities shaped by the coronavirus. From teachers to first responders, our public servants’ futures are relying on these simple changes.”
The letter asks to include a provision to account for public servants who lose their job during this public health emergency and to temporarily eliminate the requirement that a borrower must continue to be employed in public service at the time they receive PSLF acceptance.
