Reps. Boyle and Evans Celebrate Formation of First-Ever Whole Foods Union in the United States

January 27, 2025

PHILADELPHIA, PARepresentatives Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02) and Dwight Evans (PA-03) issued the following statement after workers at the Whole Foods at 2101 Pennsylvania Avenue in Philadelphia made history by voting to form the first union in the company’s history. The Representatives, both of whom are cosponsors of the PRO Act, had previously urged Whole Foods management to allow the election to proceed without interference.

“We are immensely proud of these workers, who demonstrated remarkable courage, solidarity, and determination to advocate for their rights in the workplace.

This unprecedented victory is a milestone not only for the workers in Philadelphia but for workers across the nation. It sets an inspiring example of how collective action can lead to a stronger voice on the job.

The formation of this union is a testament to the resilience and power of workers to shape their future, even in the face of significant challenges. We stand with them today and every day in their fight for fairness, respect, and dignity in the workplace.”
