HORSHAM, Pa. (CBS) — A pair of local US congressmen — one Democratic, the other Republican — have fired off a letter to the Secretary of the Navy, looking for answers about the future of the former Willow Grove Naval Air Station, in Montgomery County.
The nearly 900-acre base that sits alongside Route 611 in Horsham has been largely vacant for nearly four years. The local developement agency waiting to get its hands on the land thought that would happen by the end of last year, but critics say the US Navy appears to be dragging its feet.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Brendan Boyle (D-P-13) has joined Congressman Patrick Meehan (R-PA-07) in asking for answers from Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus about the delay of a Navy study stalling redevelopment of the former Willow Grove Naval Air Station in Horsham, Montgomery County. The Congressmen sent a joint letter today directly to Secretary Mabus.
Today is an important day for the entire nation, as we pay tribute to the men and women who risk their lives daily to ensure that we are all safe in our homes, at our jobs, or simply just walking down the street. The bravery and heroism that law enforcement officers display every day is incalculable. I am a proud native of Philadelphia and we have sadly seen too many of our men and women in blue die while protecting our city. Since 1828, 259 of Philadelphia's finest have lost their lives while on duty.
