PHILADELPHIA – Today, on the first day of school for Philadelphia public school students, Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02), joined by Philadelphia School Superintendent Dr. Tony Watlington, American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten, Philadelphia Federation of Teachers Arthur Steinberg, as well as local elected officials, to demand more federal funding for Philadelphia public schools and decry recent attempts to cut public education funding. Specifically, the group focused on the ongoing infrastructure challenges faced by public schools in Philadelphia.

PHILADELPHIA, PA: Today, Congressman Brendan Boyle (PA-02) presented a Community Project Funding (CPF) check totaling $575,000 to the Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) Philadelphia. OIC CEO/President Sheila Ireland accepted the funding award on the organization’s behalf. The presentation took place at OIC’s campus on North Broad Street in Philadelphia. This funding award will enable OIC to expand current healthcare program offerings to create career ladder opportunities in the healthcare sector—part of an ongoing effort to improve healthcare access and well-being for all.

PHILADELPHIA – Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-2) presented a Community Project Funding (CPF) check in the amount of $1,890,000 to the Independence Historical Trust to support improvements to the intersection of 2nd and Market Streets in the Old City neighborhood of Philadelphia. This funding, combined with $750,000 secured by Congressman Dwight Evans, totals nearly $2.7 million in new federal funding to improve the area in the heart of Old City.

PHILADELPHIA, PA – Today, U.S. Senators Bob Casey (D-PA) and John Fetterman (D-PA) and U.S. Representatives Brendan Boyle (PA-02) and Dwight Evans (D-PA-3), secured $158,911,664 in federal funding to reconnect Philadelphia’s Chinatown neighborhood across the Vine Street Expressway (I-676), which split the historic neighborhood apart when it was constructed. The grant will fund construction of a new public park across the expressway and includes traffic calming measures and a connection to the new Rail Park on the Reading viaduct.

Parker announced that SEPTA is receiving $317,160,000 in infrastructure funding to purchase approximately 200 new rail cars on the Market-Frankford Line, SEPTA’s most heavily-used commuter rail line.
